The Rajasthan Council of Ministers (COM) at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday unanimously passed a ‘resolution’ against the Central government’s controversial Agnipath scheme for the recruitment of 46,000 Agniveers demanding its immediate rollback.

Expressing serious concern over the nationwide protests against the scheme by aspiring youths, the COM said that the Indian Army is known for its indomitable courage. The entire country takes pride in the Indian Army’s glorious history. To maintain the dignity of the Indian Army, it is necessary to have skill, experience and stability in the forces.

To increase efficiency in the Army, it is crucial to have permanent soldiers instead of short-term recruits so that the country can reap the benefits of their experience, and it must be equipped with all the resources and must be continuously strengthened,  the COM resolved after two hours of cabinet deliberations.

Considering the military experts’ opinion on the new scheme, the COM came to the conclusion that the Agnipath scheme will neither secure the future of the youths nor will the country’s army can face the challenge with full confidence. It called for regular recruitment in the army with better trained and skilled soldiers.
